Tank and Seat

Well, this about finishes the major components.

The tank is, at least, complete. A couple of dings and a few scratches; definitely showing its age. This is one piece deserving special attention (i.e. "body" and paint). It will go a long way toward the final fit and finish.

The seat is in OK condition. A good foundation for a rebuild, or a recover. I am thinking I'll go with a fiberglass CR seat, keeping the original out of harms way until the bike finds itself the subject of a proper restoration.

  1. Primary cover from a TR25, basically the same as a B25.

Forks would actually look better with the boots. Does a better job at giving the bike a "period" feel. I'd be happy to trade you some stock forks(plus some $)for the ceriani forks. You will find it a bit of fiddling and perhaps some parts machined to get the wheel to fit right in the forks. Not a simple "bolt in" job!

    1. I'll be going for more of a street look for this bike, so the boots may find their way back to the parts bin for safe keeping. Something of a moot point, as I'm light years from a finished project.

I'll be keeping the Cerianis, but thanks for the offer. And, yes, I'm aware of issues with fitting the front wheel; I had an axle machined for this shortly after acquiring it.

  2. You will have to get some stops made for the forks otherwise the forks will crush into the tank. Not good. The Ceriani forks do not align with the not very robust factory fork stops. There are semi hack ways to make stops that bolt onto the lower triple clamp and protrude to hit the frame to act as stops. Ugly but will do the job. I welded custom stops onto the frame to do the job right. Once painted black they look as if they were always there.

    1. Thanks for this technical tip, Peter. I did wonder what I might do about this. Your fix sounds clean, and doable. I'll consider that when I get around to paint.

    3. Hi Peter, Could you please send me a PM through BritBike.com? I have a Ceriani front end that I want to put onto my 67/68 B44R (motor) / B44 VS (frame), and I am hoping to hear from you as to methods for working the stem...seems it is 7" long and the neck is approx 6-1/4". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  3. That cover is from the Triumph 250 from the same time frame.

I'm doing a COMPLETE rebuild on a 70 model that I got as a basket case here. Once I'm done, it'll be more or less brand new even though the parts are used. Had to purchase just about everything as a LOT was missing.

    1. I've always like the the smaller singles. Interesting that the answer to my query was from another bike! I couldn't find anything looking at BSAs.

  4. Ian, you can get a lot of whatever you may need from eBay which is where the majority of my parts have come from so far.

My VS was basically a rolling chassis, the engine inner and outer casings and a few other parts.

The vast majority of parts were actually missing and it's taken roughly three years to get most of what I need. Still need more but's not as bad as it was.

I'm down here in San Antonio with the VS which is a 69 not a 70 as I mistyped and a 68 B25 Starfire and a friend up in the Sacramento area has a VS as well.

Good luck with the work needing to be done. Definitely need to see pics of work in progress.

    Tim
